Biography
The Mzansi Youth Choir was established in July 2003 and is considered to be the finest show choir in South Africa. The choir consists of 48 choristers from disadvantaged backgrounds, aged between 13 and 24, with outstanding musical abilities. Since its inception, the choir has impacted the lives of over 600 disadvantaged youths who have performed with the choir.
Performance highlights include 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa, the choir shared the stage with Colombian superstar Shakira and local band Freshly Ground for the performance of the official World Cup song, “Waka Waka” at the Kick-Off Concert as well as the World Cup Final, the One World Music Festival, The Voice South Africa, the Presidential Inauguration, South African Music Awards, Gobal Citizen with headliner Beyonce, runner up on season 18 of Americas Got Talent and performing to a sold-out crowd 69 000 people at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Stadium with Coldplay. In late 2024 the choir joined Coldplay in New York for the release of their latest album which the choir has two collaborative tracks with lead singer Chris Martin.
The choir, with their incredible talent have performed in countries like Canada, Denmark, England, Scotland, Russia, Turkey and the only choir selected from the African continent chosen to participate in the International Youth Choir Festival at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
